Religion forms an important aspect of the social fabric of every nation and contributes to human development. However, religious doctrinal differences work against coming together for human development. With the global vision for peaceful co-existence that would bring about human development, inter-religious dialogue among people of different faiths has become a necessity. The subjective use of sacred texts for personal gain entrenches religious differences. What is important is the use of sacred texts with a universal appeal that can bring people of different faiths together. This paper examines the text of Jonah as a religious resource that can induce religious tolerance and world peace for global development. The paper is significant as it contributes to both local and international theories on religious tolerance for peaceful co-existence and development.
