The Management and Staff, the Religious and lay faithful gathered at Claretian University of Nigeria CUN, Nekede Owerri, on  Saturday the 26th day of October, 2024, for the formal inauguration of the main complex of Padre Pio Claretian University Hospital.

The event began with the Holy Mass presided over by the Provincial Superior of Claretian Missionaries, East Nigeria Province, Very Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Eke. In his Homily, the Provincial Superior described medical apostolate as one of the tripate apostolates of the Claretian Missionaries and thanked God for guiding them to actualize this project. 

He further thanked the Vice Chancellor of CUN, Rev. Fr. Professor Wenceslous Madu and his team, for their tireless efforts and commitment towards the realization of such a great project.

In his vote of thanks shortly before the end of the Mass, the VC expressed appreciation to everyone who has been quite instrumental to the realization of this project, and overall progress of the Hospital, especially, the Archdiocese of Paderborn, Germany for their cash donation in support of this project through the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese (incharge of German missions).

The VC equally appreciated the relentless efforts of the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Rev. Sr. Dr. Maria Joannes Uzoma and her colleagues from the Holy Family Sisters of Needy, Rev. Sr. Dr. Ann Sam and her colleagues from the Missionaries of Mary Immaculata, Rev. Sr. Dr. Theophanes Aguluka and her colleagues from Sisters of Jesus the Saviour, as well as Sr. Pauline Alaviel from the Franciscan Sisters.

After the Holy Mass, the Hospital which is situated at the strategic left wing of the main entrance of the campus, was blessed by the Provincial Superior in company of the VC, the Registrar and Chaplain of the University and other priests and religious too numerous to mention.

Established in 2019 through the instrumentality of Claretian University Foundation,  this Hospital has lived up to her mandate of providing quality health care services at a very low and affordable cost for the people. In less than five years of its establishment, Padre Pio Claretian University Hospital has successfully acquired several state-of-the-art equipment for different diagnosis. 

It has one of the well-equipped laboratories and pharmacies in town. The Hospital has over thirty eminently qualified medical personnel drawn from both the Religious and lay people, who discharge their duties with unbridled love and care for the clients. Since 2019, the Hospital has successfully conducted virginal birth/delivery of over five hundred indigent women; successfully conducted a cesarean section of over two hundred women. Several preterm births have also been successfully carried out in this hospital; with over eight hundred and fifty patients treated of mild and severe cases of malaria, typhoid fever, High Blood Pressure, Arthritis and so forth.

It is the quest to continually satisfy clients’ needs and also meet international standards of operations, that prompted the management of this hospital to quickly swing into action, despite limited resources, to ensure that her main complex is completed in record time.

Guests at the event were entertained by the cultural dance group of the Claretian Institute of Philosophy. The occasion featured free medical outreach administered to the indigent people.
