“Claretian University of Nigeria is a university for tomorrow,” Professor Wence Madu.

The Vice Chancellor of Claretian University of Nigeria, CUN, Rev. Fr. Professor Wence Madu has described the University as one with solid plans for the academic future of her students. The VC stated this during the 2nd Matriculation ceremony of the University held on Friday the 19th of May 2023.

The event which held at the University’s premises in Maryland, Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, began with a concelebrated Mass. In his homily, the Chief Celebrant and VC of the University expressed gratitude to God for His benevolence on the institution.

He noted that the Management of the University was working tirelessly to make the institution a centre of excellence in all ramifications.

The Matriculation ceremony began shortly after the Mass at the University’s Auditorium. In his Address, the Vice Chancellor noted that within two years of its establishment, CUN has grown from two schools to three following the commencement of academic programs in the school of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences.

He equally explained that during it’s Matriculation in 2021, the University had 71 students. “Today, we are matriclating 152 new students for the 2022/2023 academic calendar. We want to assure parents that CUN will do its best to inculcate sound moral values and enduring academic culture because we believe that the religious and spiritual upbringing of students play significant roles in shaping their moral values and orientation” said the VC.

He expressed gratitude to the Superior General of Claretian Missionaries and Proprietor of the University, Very Rev. Fr. Matthew Vattamattam for granting the approval for establishment of the University.

The occasion attracted dignitaries from the academia, the religious and friends of the University including the representative of the Traditional Ruler of Nekede Ancient Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Eze Agummanu, the representative of Imo State University, Owerri, amongst others.

Highlights of the ceremony were the taking of Matriculation oath by the Matriculants, Award of excellence to six students who distinguished themselves in the use of the Library.
