CLARET STUDENT EMERGES CHAMPION OF SOUTH EAST STATES ATHLETICS COMPETITION

The month of February was indeed agog with much celebration… not only about love, but for Claret Students Gariki, Enugu and indeed the Claretian family, it was a celebration of CHAMPIONS!

This great excitement within our institute was courtesy of one of the final year students, who is also the Senior Prefect of the school …. Miss Chinonye Ugwu… She participated in the Enugu State Athletic Competition 2021 earlier in January and came out winner in under 15 100m and under 17 200m female races.

She did not rest on her oars at that point…. she went on to represent the state at the South East States Athletic Competition 2021 (1st to 5th February) and also emerged with gold medals in the under-15 100m female race, as well as the under-17 200m race.

The school director of our great institute … Claret Academy Secondary School, Gariki, Enugu State, Fr Matthew Mmuo cmf, in his congratulatory speech eulogized the Claret Champion, Miss Chinonye Ugwu, who has indeed marked her name on the sand of time, not just at Claret Academy, but on the world scene. He challenged other students to bring out the inner champion in them as our school vision remains “building champions for a better society”.

We pray she moves up to the National and International scene soonest and even to breaking records of the great Chioma Ajunwa’s, Blessing Okagare’s and other great female Nigerian athletes…
